why detroit is the new Brooklyn People constantly ask me "why are you in Detroit?" "Are you scared when you go out?" "Do people actually live down there?" "I heard it's coming back (after attending a sporting event), what do you think?"
I am back in Detroit because this is my home. This is where I belong. The support of other entrepreneurs and the community has been a very delightful surprise and unlike anything I could have imagined when I left chicago now two years ago. Like all the other young 20-30 something's taking leaps and bounds to bring Detroit what it needs to grow and thrive, this what Im a part of and that's what I'm proud to be a part of. our experience in other markets can pave the way to bigger things and thus more money for Detroit continuing the cycle of growth and resurgence.
My company is called Brooklyn Outdoor (www.brooklynoutdoor.com) and yes, in Detroit, for many reasons...Detroit is the new Brooklyn, but Brooklyn is already here:)
People have doubted me my whole life, but anytime you doubt me, I will fight harder..just like Detroit. I identify with Detroit in that struggle to rise beyond limitations and preconceived notions of what it should be and what it is capable of being. We rise from the ashes.
We are Detroit. I am Detroit.
