Well, what a doozy of a week it's been with the North American International Auto Show in town at Cobo Center downtown Detroit. I started my auto show experience early this year as my company Brooklyn Outdoor was retained to assist in event decor with Great Lakes Coffee for an auto industry event during supplier week by Celanese via Publicis Hawkeye out of Dallas.
And got to see some of our Brooklyn Outdoor work with our client Siemens who was featured on the new Cobo Center Digital spectacular brand new this year for auto show. It was absolutely STUNNING.
The Great Lakes team is always fantastic to work with and puts on a heck of a coffee event. Long night Weds and early morning Thursday, but the coffee bar ended up looking fantastic and was a huge hit. The crowd favorite was naturally the Lavender Latte with Lavender syrup made in house at GLC in Midtown. The Publicis Hawkeye team came in town to scout out Detroit and get a feel for their event for their client and their inspiration came straight from Great Lakes.
Following the set up for the event, we worked up some more thirst for coffee, so spent the remainder of the day working at Great Lakes having more Lavender lattes and pour overs along with our favorite bagels in the world, Detroit Institute of Bagels, which they serve at GLC. Emily and I are a tad obsessed with the DIB if you haven't already noticed. Not sure what they do to those things, but the crisp outside and the soft and delicious inside mixed with scallion or regular cream cheese is not to be missed. Our personal faves are the everything and the olive oil rosemary sea salt. Everything, Plain, and jalapeno are served at Great Lakes all day.
After working up an appetite, we decided to pop in to Rubbed on Michigan Ave in Corktown, who now delivers for lunch! The potato salad with dill was fab and so were our sandos. The bread is delish and the appetizers looked phenomenal. will have to pop back by for some of those apps.
Friday was the big day of the Charity preview and of course makeup and hair must be done accordingly. The beautiful and talented Jessica Phillips of Jessica Phillips Hair touched up my grey and did some killer makeup. She's a goddess.
the party started at the MGM Grand Children's Hospital pre-glow gala. We were shuttled off to the main event where everyone was dressed to the nines (almost everyone that is).
Happened to spot some amazing D Street style with the men of Detroit and creative director of @Shinola of course. Love to see men taking risks with casual and black tie with J's on their feet.
Steve Miller Band performed after in Studio 52 at Cobo Center and had a huge crowd.
After the gala, we rock and rolled over to Cliff Bells for the Microsoft Party which was totally hot. The band was very energetic as always and really brought the house down. Apparently I got on the mic and rapped for a bit until they asked for the mic back. No footage of that thankfully. You know it's a good night when there's a stage performance. Cliff bells has great food and hosts a wonderful party. The staff was excellent and clearly I enjoyed the cocktails.
The party didn't stop after Cliff Bells and continued at Dennis Archer Jrs after party at one of my favorite places in Detroit - Berts in Eastern Market. The party went there until the wee hours of the morning and it was packed.
I don't think this guy had much luck at MGM Grand - he after partied after the after parties while I walked around in my new microsoft slippers checking out the scene at the tables. Just glad this wasn't me.
After a great night in the D, the morning calls for some BRUNCH. The Dime Store brunch was calling my name and luckily my friend Mike was working who fixed me up some of the best bloody marys i've had in a long time. I happen to be a bloody mary specialist and make the best out there in my opinion. Dime store rivals. We enjoyed some fries to start, which are truffle fries with truffle mayo and to die for. We followed that up with some Bennys - I had the philly cheesesteak benny and jen had the salmon lox benny. May sound weird but they were phenomenal. If you go for lunch, try the duck rueben or the korean beef sandwich. they are epic. Dime Store is open every day for brunch, lunch, and happy hour:)
My favorite tagline of the auto show was the Maserati wall "The absolute opposite of ordinary". I love that - no one wants to be ordinary or at least I don't:) Stand out and follow your dreams...you never know where they will take you if you let them.
