Keep the momentum going with the greening of Detroit and get out to Eastern Market this weekend for Flower Day! This past weekend, we went out to Hantz Woodlands to plant some trees on the lower east side of Detroit and it was spectacular.
The day couldn't have been more beautiful and the energy was electric. Signage was posted everywhere to show what the plots looked like prior to the clean up and planting. Tours were given by bus of the woodlands to educate the fine people of Detroit on this wonderful organization. We had killer tunes, face painting, clowns/balloon animals, ice cream galore, BBQ, lawnmower races, bike valet for those on two wheels, and of course shovels, pales, and trees to get planting. 5,000 trees were planted together by the community and suburban Detroit with kids of all ages and adults of all ages. It was a very positive thing to see happening in Detroit in the place of blight and abandoned buildings for tens of years. John Hantz is a truly humble and wonderful human being who was very gracious to us at his home Friday evening and then glowing with excitement on Saturday at the planting to see how many people came out to be a part of the community coming together to green detroit.
This weekend, you can beautify your own home or business by going out to Eastern Market and enjoying planting day.
Stop by Berts Warehouse around back and check out the live music, karaoke, and BBQ. This gets really turnt up if you're in for some people watching and great vibes.
