Kick off the holidays with Midtown’s 44th annual Noel Night this Saturday, December 3rd from 5PM-10PM.

The beauty of Noel Night is that it can be a family-friendly affair or a night of bar hopping in Midtown.

Regardless of where (and when) you plan to end your evening, participate in the long-standing tradition and commence the celebration on Woodward Ave with a community sing-along led by the Salvation Army Band.

The night is jam packed with free community activities, performances, and art installations. Noelnight.org calls the evening a “Cultural-Center wide holiday open house.” Midtown’s many cultural hubs will be open to the public and hosting some sort of performance, exhibition, family activity, educational seminar or a combination of the four. One of my personal favorite events of Noel Night is the Ice Scrapper Challenge that takes place in front of the DIA. Students from the College of Creative Studies and Wayne State sculpt blocks of ice into sculptures under the guidance of legendary ice sculptor, Randy Finch. What a great way to showcase the tremendous talent coming out Wayne State and the College of Creative Studies!

In my opinion, another must-do is the horse-drawn carriage ride through midtown. Whether you’re with your family, friends, or significant other a horse-drawn carriage ride is a memorable touch to any evening.

When Noel Night ends at 10PM, the after parties get going! Head to Temple of Cyborg at near-by Temple Bar for a good ole’ fashion dance party. Host, Mother Cyborg is one of my favorite DJs in Detroit-she seamlessly transitions the dance floor through Global Bass, Cumbia, Deep house, Baltimore Club, and Booty music.

TV Lounge, UFO Factory, EL Club and late night-staple Grenadier Club also have special events for the evening.

Whether your night is family-friendly or a legendary bar night for the books, Noel Night has something special for everyone!

See you there,

Sam Robinson
