SO MANY THINGS!

This past weekend involved some excellent downtown drinkery with two of our favorite people in the world, including Ms. J’adore Detroit herself, Candice Simons! First up, Queens Bar: the bartenders are delightfully heavy handed and I loved their cocktail-height booth seating. Next, Detroit’s iconic speakeasy, Café D’Mongo’s… wow. The vibe was cool and nostalgic with a little bit of randomness thrown in for good measure – you’ll want to pull up a seat as much for the memorabilia as for the live music.

On the subject of drinkery… Here’s the very beautiful (and easy on the palate) Gilded Age Vodka by Detroit City Distillery. They offer a fun tasting experience at their distillery-cum-bar/restaurant in Eastern Market, including their vodkas, all of their gins, and their rye and bourbon whiskey. And it’s free!

It may not be nitro, but the cold brew at Germack in Eastern Market really gets the job done! I also love perusing their selection of Michigan pantry items and dry goods.

Had to do a u-turn and pull over just to snap this masterpiece portrait of Basquiat on Grand River. Inspiration at every turn in this city.
