THE DETROIT FREE PRESS MARATHON IS THIS SUNDAY.

Although I’m not running in the marathon, I am drawing inspiration from the dedicated contestants and I encourage you to do the same.

I’ve never been one to keep up a consistent workout routine, that is, until I was promoted to Junior Publicist at Brooklyn Outdoor / J’adore Detroit and became a real business woman. I decided every successful powerhouse person needs a workout routine and hit the treadmill at Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center after work.

For the last month or so I’ve been going to the gym 3-4 times a week and let me tell you, after I workout, I feel like Gwyneth Paltrow.

Running relieves my stress from the day. It makes me feel invincible and motivated to keep doing better. On days when my to-do list is seemingly endless, I think about how I feel when I run and remember it’s all about mind over matter.

~With that rant out of the way~

There’s are several running groups in and around Detroit that I’m interested in checking out and think you might be too.

Run Detroit coordinates weekly group runs on Saturdays at 8AM all year round and a Monday night track workout April-October 30th.

Downtown Runners and Walkers meet on Tuesday evenings and have various distance options to accommodate all skillsets. After the run (or walk) the group meets for dinner, drinks and conversation at a designated spot. Judging by the website, this is a very welcoming community of people- marathon finalists from the group are congratulated and there’s a Birthday Board.

My personal pick Running For Brews Royal Oak meets at 7PM on Mondays at the Royal Oak Brewery. After a 5k lap around the city, the group cools down with a craft beer. Running For Brews has meet ups in over 30 cities across the US. It sounds like a great way to meet people in a new city.

Run with a group or run solo, either way you will feel like your best self if you incorporate a workout routine into your week.

Who knows, maybe this time next year you’ll be running in the Free Press Marathon.
