QUALITY

First and foremost, The Lip Bar manufactures a high quality product. The recipes are vegan, organic, cruelty-free and most importantly, they LAST. I’ve been using their gloss, “Class Act,” religiously this past summer and it withstood everything from work, to drinks with my girls, and even Mo POP festival. “Class Act,” my summer obsession, is a gorgeous burgundy gloss with a lustrous shimmer. Other popular shades are “Bawse Lady” (a knockout red), “Curlfriend” (a rosey matte shade), and “Prima Donna” (a bold purple). The Lip Bar unveils new products regularly. Within the coming weeks, four new glosses and three mattes are expected to hit shelves.

INCLUSIVE

The Lip Bar focuses on enhancing the natural beauty of customers of all color. Seriously, there is a shade out there for everybody! Not only that, the brand encourages defying traditional beauty standards that promote mostly nude and pink lip shades. The colors range from dark and moody to fun and vibrant- with a mix of everything in between. If you’ve never ventured outside the pink tones, I highly recommend you head over to their storefront in West Village to try out some new lipsticks!

AFFORDABLE

I used to purchase my lip products at Sephora, but but with popular brands like Nars, Dior, and YSL inching towards the $30+ mark, it’s hardly worth it anymore. Pricing for The Lip Bar products ranges from $12-$13, which is incredibly reasonable. Not only does the Lip Bar maintains a great price point they do so  without sacrificing quality or variety. It’s a win-win.

FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT

The storefront in West Village is an inclusive space that allows customers to sit down and try on any lip product in front of one of two adorable vanities. The friendly staff is more than accommodating and very knowledgeable. You’ll often find owner Melissa assisting customers, explaining her products, and sharing her story. She’s so personable! I also recently met one of The Lip Bar employees, Whitney, who is a Michigan-based makeup artist. You can find some of her looks on her Instagram @whippedbywhitmua.

DETROIT BASED

The Lip Bar was founded by Detroiter Melissa Butler who wanted to create fun, and vibrant lip products without all of the harmful ingredients. The brand operates a pop-up storefront in West Village, Detroit where customers can try The Lip Bar’s range of products. Recently, The Lip Bar became a finalist in the 2017 Hatch Detroit Contest for a $50,000 grant in hopes of opening a manufacturing center in Detroit. While another business, Baobab Fare, ultimately took home the grant, The Lip Bar continues with big plans in the city of Detroit.

So there you have it- five reasons I’m crazy about The Lip Bar! If you haven’t tried this brand yet, I definitely recommend you stop by their pop-up location in West Village or head to their website www.thelipbar.com.
