The weather’s officially heating up in the D, and so is our need to hit up the best outdoor patios in the area. When you have an insane love of both eating and being outside, you’ll do anything to make sure those two world’s collide.
Recently, Candice had the opportunity to talk to NPR’s Detroit Culture Shift team and gave them the run-down on all of her favorite patios in Detroit. Here are some of the highlights on her talk of what places you have to frequent this summer.
Patios to Dine On
Ottava Via: Ottava Via is located in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood near old Tiger Stadium. It’s one of our favorite places for Italian food in the city, and the patio has bocce ball in the warmer months. Classic outdoor games are a summer must too.
La Dolce Vita: La Dolce Vita’s patio is like a secret garden in the city. Every second Sunday of the month, their brunch turns into a Pajama Party with a live DJ and mimosa bar. PJs and drinks? Can’t complain.
Nancy Whiskey: This old-school Irish bar in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood hosts a food pop-up featuring different chefs around Detroit every Sunday night. They also have a corn hole tournament on Thursdays. Once again, outdoor games = essential.
The Peterboro: The Peterboro hosts a Pig & Punch party on select Wednesdays. This summer shindig features rum punch cocktails, a DJ and pork dishes.
Patios for Live Music
Old Miami: This is one of our favorite places to party during the summer months, perfect for a day of hanging out with friends or to listen to live music at night. They have an outdoor bar and occasional food vendors, too.
Northern Lights: If you are looking for a brunch party, Northern Lights Lounge in New Center is your go-to. They have brunch with a live DJ until 3 p.m. on the weekends. Think of how late you can wake up.
El Club: This music venue is one of our fav places for concerts. The recently-expanded patio is a perfect place to hang with friends, and the best place to go to a show or check out a nightly DJ.
Motor City Wine: Located in Corktown, this is one of our regular spots to hang on summer nights. The patio has a classic backyard vibe with a weekly line up of Detroit’s favorite DJs.
The Whitney Detroit: The Whitney hosts a weekly garden party on Thursdays with live music. If you’re feeling extra swanky and classy, dining here will ensure that.
With it only being June, there's no excuse not to check out all of these great gems Detroit has to offer this summer. Just make sure you're seated outside.
