OK. Summer is here, unofficially, but let's be real. These hot, humid days leave us needing an ice cold drink by 4 pm. AT THE LATEST! So we wanted to share with you our COOL, new, fave hangout, Kiesling Detroit.
Restored after decades of sitting empty this old Milwaukee Junction watering hole is back in action. Featuring Rob Wilson (We love you ROB!) formerly of Selden Standard, as the bar manager, leading a knowledgeable team loaded with great hospitality. Originally a cafe, general store and a bar it eventually switched hands in the 70’s and became “Edith’s Hideaway,” a police and firefighter hangout until it was shutdown in the 90’s.
During the buildout, they found secrets of the buildings past and restored a multi-piece mural of nature scenes painted on the wall. Lots of dark-finished wood is seen throughout and whether it looks like it or not, the walls AND CEILINGS are wallpaper! The bar was designed by Ashley Davidson and features original wood and wallpaper from Printsburgh. The space has a southwest meets Detroit feel, that kinda makes you feel like you’re in your grandpa’s very chic man cave. The bar features 14 seats while leather couches and benches line the other side of the bar walls. Kiesling has a patio that can fit a couple dozen people out in the fresh air. They have an awesome private room for small parties or if you just feel like ballin’ out.
With a team featuring former members of Selden, Chartreuse and La Rondinella you know they are putting out delicious drinks! Not only are they delicious but they are very reasonable priced around $10-12 bucks. We recommend the “Honey bear” garnished with bee pollen! They also have a rotating FROZEN COCKTAIL to keep you cool all damn summer. Our go-to move to keep the party going is to have a couple drinks and switch to the “Beer and a shot” combo for only $5.
If you are looking for a dark and homey vibe, GO HERE. If you are looking for great drinks and hospitality, GO HERE. If you are looking for somewhere you can bring your own food in, GO HERE. FOR A GOOD TIME DRINK AT KIESLING.
