Yass, its summer in the D and the music gods have graced us once again with a music festival on the riverfront.
As you know, Movement Festival is like candy to the souls of Detroiter’s, celebrating the very music birthed in the city. Now, we also have Mo Pop festival to thank for bringing a collaboration of national headliners and Michigan’s top-emerging artists together for two days of audible pleasure.
Mo Pop festival combines a list of headliners ranging from indie-rock, pop and hip-hop artist to perform across two different stages. When I say two different stages…. Let me explain further. This means no losing your friends while roaming from stage-to-stage or planning your day precisely so not to lose your squad or miss your favorite artist. Also, there are no competing set times at the festival. So, you can be sure to see each performance your heart desires.
Incase your not familiar with the artists or need a playlist to get you hype, spotify has the Mo Pop playlist on lock ----> Spotify, Mo Pop 2018
The artists i'm most looking forward to are : Bon Iver, St. Vincent, The National, Daniel Caesar, Clairo and Brockhampton. What about you?
Also, be prepared to shake your booty! Detroit’s most known party hosts Haute2Death will be at the fest from 6 pm ‘til close to keep the dance party flowing.
So, we already know the performances are going to be hella-dope, make sure to check out the villages too!
Excpect to challenge your friends to a high score contest in classics such as Mortal Kombat and Simpsons. Don’t worry, the challenge won’t get too heated, because the tent is fully equipped with air conditioning.
The festival will also be lined with talented crafts people and vendors.
I know I’m be bringing some extra spending money to shop some of my favorites listed below:
Goldeluxe Jewelry – handmade jewelry in brass, sterling silver and 14k gold fill designed for versatility and daily wear.
The Moon Sisterhood – Moon sign sessions, oracle card readings, chakra balancing, crystal prescriptions + sacred tools to raise your vibrations.
Alchemy – seriously awesome henna by a collective of Michigan henna artists.
Food Truck Rally Alley
Mo Pop will also fulfill your hunger needs with a food truck rally alley lined with some of Detroit’s favorite spots, including but not limited to:
Populace – a coffee roasting company focused on quality coffee for everyone, with their newest location in the lobby level of the beautiful Siren Hotel in Downtown Detroit.
Treat Dreams -- cool down with the most original and innovative homemade ice cream in Michigan.
Delectabowls – comfort food all served conveniently in a bowl while accommodating any kind of eater including, vegan, gluten free or meat and cheese lovers alike.
As if the food trucks weren’t enough to put some yum in your tum… behold, the SHIPYARD!
The SHIPYARD returns to MoPop with a roster full of some of Detroit’s fav restaurants:
Imperial: purveyors of southern California street food and working-class tacos – AKA Hipster Central coming to you straight outta Ferndale, MI
Voyager: listed as a top 10 restaurant in the country by Food & Wine magazine. The seafood specialists are joining the festival with its little sister restaurant Lover’s Only – the Wes Anderson inspired restaurant that serves up a mean cheese burger.
Don’t be that person scrambling, wondering what to do with their belongings at the festivals entrance. Make sure to think about things you’ll need throughout the weekend.
Sunglasses. Hair ties. Lip balm. Camera (no dslr). Phone charger. Gum/mints. Blanket. Refillable water bottle. Cash. Sunscreen. First aid kit. Mini deodorant?
Sidenote – you may also want to pack a water pancho or small umbrella. As of now, Sunday is calling for rain and the festival has a no re-entry rule.
