Working from Home in Detroit

Not many things beat the luxury of working from home. It’s a chance to start the day at your own pace and work from a location of your choice. We put together a list of the best spots in Detroit to get your productivity on. We considered beverage/food choice, ambience, and of course natural lighting.

First and foremost, the holy mecca of cafes; The Kresge Court at the DIA.

Use your local ID for free admission into the DIA and head downstairs to the bistro. A beautiful skylight lets an abundance of natural light into the elegant cafe. It feels like a European slice of heaven in the heart of Midtown. The ambience alone increases productivity ten fold. The food is absolutely delicious; I recommend the Tomato Pesto Bisque paired with the Turkey Focaccia. After the day’s work is finished, celebrate with a glass of pinot and enjoy their fabulous book collection.

Urban Bean Co. is at the corner of Griswold and Grand River in Downtown Detroit. It’s a two-story coffee shop with a retro vibe. I love sitting on the second floor of Urban Bean and watching the hustle and bustle of downtown. The coffee is heavily caffeinated and the funky vibe adds a fun twist to the workday.

When the sun is shining and it’s too nice to be inside, I love working from Avalon in Midtown. It has to be one of the only spots in Detroit with full sun exposure. Everything on the menu is made from scratch, they have the perfect variety of beverage choices, pastries, and food options to keep you fueled throughout your day.
