Author Elizabeth Andrew once said, “Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they have the heart.”
Find time this holiday season to give back to your community and volunteer.
One of our favorite organizations in Detroit, Wolverine Human Services, is a great place to start. Their mission “Helping Children to be Victors” is carried out by helping kids overcome social and economic limitations to capitalize on their personal strengths and contribute to their own healing.
The organization provides a support system and effective treatment services to adolescent youth who have been victim to neglect or abuse and as a result have fallen into delinquent activity.
Wolverine Human Services needs your help to make Christmas Day extra special for 15 boys.
Most of their children get to go home and spend Holidays with their families. However, some children cannot return home for safety and security reasons. It is on Wolverine to ensure these young boys have presents to open and make sure Santa has not forgotten them.
Wolverine is asking people to donate card games, board games, basketballs, footballs, books, and toys. If they meet the needs for their youth, the extra toys will be donated to the Detroit Police Department 5th Precinct Sergeant Santa Program.
It is up to us to give these boys a Harry Potter Christmas; we can not let these kids think Santa forgot them!
Next time you’re at a store with toys please keep these boys in mind and find a special gift they would be excited to open on Christmas Day.
bring items to donate to Wolverine Center located at 2629 Lenox St Detroit, Mi 48215.
Participants are invited to WHS Annual Holiday Party at Wolverine Center. Children in the program, their families, WHS staff, supporters, and board members will celebrate the holidays with caroling, some gift opening, and a feast like no other.
