Saturday night, GRiZ took over the Lincoln Street Art Park in New Center with a surprise show.
It was the party of the year!
The 5th day of the “12 Days of Grizmas” was previewed as a Solar Beatz set at an undisclosed venue. On Saturday afternoon, GRiZ announced via social media the secret set would be at the Lincoln Street Art Park, that night.
Talk about the coolest place ever to have a surprise show. There were no tickets or lines, it was unofficially BYOB. People pulled up to the park and saw a DJ Truck tricked out with flame throwers, a giant inflatable Jellyfish Dome, and the Art Park’s infamous bonfire.
GRiZ came on at 1 AM and DJ’d adding his signature funky flare to songs while the crowd went wild. His stage, “Solar Beatz” is an art car installation powered by solar energy. It originally debuted at Burning Man and continues to be used as an environmentally friendly-mobile stage.

GRiZ (Grant Kwiecinski) is an electronic funk producer from Southfield, Michigan. He’s known for playing the saxophone live and has a reputation of doing surprise sets at festivals- I saw him on Bonnaroo’s secret stage and again, playing the saxophone, along side Kamasi Washington at SuperJam. GRiZ concerts feel like a dance party in funky town- his music radiates good vibes.
Leading up to his back to back concerts at the Masonic Temple on December 16th & 17th, GRiZ is hosting his annual charity fundraiser, “12 Days of Grizmas”. All proceeds go to Little Kids Rock and the events are a crazy good time- I can't wait to see what today's surprise is going to be.

I’m thankful I fought off my burrito related food coma and went to the Art Park on Saturday. It was truly a great moment to be a Detroiter.
Where else, besides Detroit, would a fire-blasting DJ Truck-BYOB-outdoor rave happen?
