The Skip a Fast Approachable Outdoor Bar in the Belt
The Skip, our FAVORITE new bar in Detroit!
Open June 2nd The Skip is by far my favorite new edition to the bar scene downtown. Located in the Belt, surrounded by art, and other great bars, like Standby, The Belt is the place you need to take locals and visitors. The Skip not only is outside in an alley, they pride themselves on their Open Air, fast, approachable design. There is no sacrifice to quality, while keeping a relaxed, user friendly menu.
Giving that "vacation" vibe is easy with the craft casual menu provided. All items on the menu are geared for being outside. The drinks are refreshing and AFFORDABLE! Available to try and buy are the Frozen selections: Cucumber Margarita, Jungle Bird, Daiquiri and Frozen Irish Coffee (yes I said Frozen Irish Coffee). Think about being out in the sun and wanting something cold to drink, well kick it up with better quality product and you have The Skips frozen selection!
Not ready for a frozen drink? Choose your own adventure with one their cocktails. Instead of being told what alcohol to drink with your cocktail, you choose! The cocktail list was specifically made as a great base for a variety of spirits, there are suggestions on the menu in case you just don't have a preference.
Do you want shots? They have plenty to choose from, but their house special "Rat Poison" is chilled but will be even colder soon, they have a shot chiller in the making especially for this shot.
Now one of my favorite menu items are the Boilermakers, I know what you are thinking, this isn't a draft beer with a shot on the side, this is the NEXT level in Beer Cocktails!!! With 5 Beer cocktails currently on the menu, The Skip puts the shot in the can of beer and it's finished with a house made rim that perfectly compliments the beer and liquor! My favorite was the Liliko'I Kepolo. It's a passionfruit beer with gin and a "sour patch kid" sugar. Never would you think gin is the go to for a boilermaker, but it goes perfectly with the passionfruit and sugar to bring out the citrus notes.
Don't worry they have a great beer selection and a wine list if for some reason you can't find something on the drink menu. The wine list will be light, available by the glass or bottle, in the next few weeks.
Don't worry if it was too packed to get in The Skip this past weekend, the PATIO is expanding very soon. I think they will need all the room they can get! Latin American food will also be available soon, can't wait to try that!
June 8th at 7pm, Bombay Sapphire is holding their MOST IMAGINATIVE BARTENDER COMPETITION at The Skip. This contest with host bartenders from Detroit, Indiana, and Ohio. Come by and check out a fun competition, cheer for our local competitors, and maybe try and few cocktails!
