Top Travel Hacks for Holiday Travel
TRAVELING CAN BE ONE OF THE MOST STRESSFUL PARTS ABOUT THE HOLIDAYS. I TRAVEL ALL THE TIME, BUT THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. THE PEOPLE, THE PACKING AND THE AIRPORTS (WE ALL KNOW DTW CAN BE A ZOO THIS TIME OF YEAR). WITH A LITTLE PREPARATION AND A FEW INSIDER TIPS, HOLIDAY TRAVEL CAN BE EASIER THAN IT'S EVER BEEN!
FLYING A LOT? ENROLL IN TSA PRE-CHECK
TSA pre-check saved my life and is worth its weight in gold. If you are a frequent flier, you know how busy the airport can get around the holidays. Skip the lines and the hassle with TSA PreCheck. Not only will you experience shorter lines at security, you can also keep your shoes, laptop, liquids, belts, or light jackets in your bag. To apply to enroll in this program click HERE. With an $85 membership, you will receive 5 years of TSA PreCheck.
USE PACKING CUBES TO ORGANIZE
Packing cubes are a great way to organize your wardrobe and save space in your suitcase. Compression packing cubes are my favorite because they condense your clothing through a unique zipper method. So, it’s an easy way to save luggage space for what really matters- more shoes! HERE are my favorites. I love that they are waterproof, dirtproof, and brightly colored. They make labeling, finding, and protecting your clothes a breeze.
ROLL YOUR CLOTHES
If you’re planning on traveling with a wardrobe, try rolling your clothes instead of folding them. This can save you a TON of space and help to reduce the amount of wrinkles created by cramped spaces and tight folds. As soon as you’ve arrived at your destination, make use of closets and dresser space to keep your clothes looking presentable.
KooShoo’s Journey Shawl is twelve outfits in one, making it the perfect travel accessory. And convertible clothing has never been more stylish! Their Journey shawl is made from Eucalyptus tree fibers and ethically made in Los Angeles. You can convert the shaw into a scarf, dress, tee, vest, skirt, and more. The perfect piece for someone who is always struggling with what to wear. Especially with travel, this can save you tons of space and hassle!
PACK A PLASTIC BAG
One of the best way to stay organized on vacation is to pack a plastic bag(s) for dirty laundry. That way, you can immediately toss worn outfits/suits into the bag and stay organized for the rest of your trip. When you get back home, you already have your laundry all separated and ready for cleaning.
LIMIT YOURSELF TO A CARRY-ON BAG
If you are able to, try and limit yourself to just a carry-on bag. For one, you will always have your bag in sight and there will not be the worry of lost/stolen luggage. It will also save you tons of time at the airport. You can easily check in online, skip the baggage counter, and head right to security. And when you arrive at your destination, you will not have the stress of waiting for your suitcase at baggage claim. If you go this route, be sure to check your airline to see the size limitations on carry-ons.
ARRIVE AT THE AIRPORT AND PLAN, PLAN, PLAN
Planning and timeliness can save you so much stress and hassle when traveling. Be prepared and allow yourself 1.5 hours once you get the airport (for holidays and international, plan for 2+ hours). Be sure to know your airport. You can go online and check to see if you need to take a tram at the airport, and the location of your terminal. If you are prepared, travel stress is greatly reduced!
May the travel gods be on your side this season! And remember to have a safe journey wherever the holidays may take you.
