Valentine's Day in Detroit: A Week of Events with Your Sweetie

Calling all the love birds, folks in domestic partnerships, and “situationships,” Valentine’s Day is creeping up around the corner. Because we at j’adore Detroit believe there is more to celebrate about love (in all forms) than a hallmark holiday – here is a list of our favorite events happening all week.  

2/10: Detroit Foundation Hotel

Detroit Foundation Jazz - Get jazzy over brunch at Detroit Foundation Hotel to the smooth sounds of Mr. Bob St. Thomas and special guests. The boogie-woogie will be flowing through the Apparatus Room from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm. So, grab your sweetie, BFF, or FWB and cheers mimosas and Bloody Mary’s.

2/10: Lovedrug at the Schvitz

Keep the good times rolling on this Sunday Funday and get your Schvitz on. From 6pm-10pm Lovedrug will be doing an Aphrodisiac Cocktail Pop-up for Co-Ed night. The kinky cocktails will be sure to get your mojo going in time for the lover’s holiday. If you want to enjoy the wellness effects and energy from the potions with your Gal Pals, they will also be serving up drinks at the ladies’ brunch from noon-4pm. The makers of these love concoctions will also be serving up the sexy elixirs at Trixie’s in Hamtramck on 2/13.

 2/14: Willis Showbar

When dinner is over there is no doubt you and your love bird will want to keep evening going. Valentine’s Day with Ben Sharkey at the Willis Show bar is the perfect place to have a nightcap with your beau. Be sure to make reservations on Eventbrite. Walk-ins are welcome ($20 cover), but seating is limited!

2/14: Folk Detroit

Let’s celebrate love in all forms at the Folk After Dark Sanctuary Dinner, Detroit. A collective of small business owners and creatives in the city hosting a dinner experience that celebrates loves diverse forms. Guests will enjoy: a 5-course dinner, paired beverage offerings, storytelling, curated music, stunning floral and décor, keepsakes and more! (P.S. Yours truly will be there <3)

2/14: Grey Ghost Detroit

Chefs Joe Giacomino and John Vermiglio are whipping up a multi-course tasting menu for Valentine's Day on Thursday, February 14th. The five-course menu features special dishes like Mushroom Stroganoff Raviolo, Filet Mignon and a Chocolate Candy Bar. Price is $75 per person. Optional drink pairings available. 2/14: Gold Cash Gold 

Chef Brendon Edwards is preparing a four-course special menu for Valentine's Day weekend, available Thursday February 14th - Saturday, February 16th. Menu items include: Saffron Turmeric Tortellini with Pistachio and Orange Blossom Water, Burrata Salad with Tropical Fruit & Coconut Pavlova and Surf & Turf with Ribeye, Seared Scallop and Horseradish Apple Risotto.

Price is $65 per person with $30 optional wine pairings hand-selected by sommelier Rita Vasquez. To reserve: events@gcgdetroit.com 

 2/14: Deluxx Fluxx

If you aren’t feeling all that romance but want to have a damn good time head to Deluxx Fluxx for Village of Love: A Planned Parenthood Benefit. The night is stacked with a long line of performances from favorite local artists such as Bevlove and Willa Rae. GA is $15 and tickets are available on Eventbrite.com.

 2/14: The Dirty Show

Or if you’re looking to get downright obscene and weird, The Dirty Show is celebrating its 20th year anniversary from the 8th-16th. For two decades the world’s largest erotic art show has been taking place right in our backyard at the Russell Industrial Center. Expect art in all forms, burlesque and go-go dancers, and prime people watching. This one is good for the friends, lovers, “notsurewhatweare” and all folks in-between. Except your mom. Don’t take your mom.

 2/14: Anti- Valentine’s Day Party

If you’re channeling Jessica Biel in the movie Valentine’s Day and you absolutely hate the holiday, we have the party for you. Whiskey in the Jar in Hamtramck is throwing their annual Anti-Valentine’s Day party. Take out your animosity by piñata bashing, drinking and dancing to the sounds of DJ Blayd.

 2/15: Eastern Market Brewing Co.

Vinyl Nights @ EMBC! Gather your favorite records and head to Eastern Market Brewing Corporation for a jam session over brewskis. The record player will be hooked up to the speakers in the taproom and the beers will be flowing. The party starts every Friday at 6pm.

 2/16: Detroit Body Garage

Sweat with your sweetie (friend or sibling) at Detroit Body Garage for a free community workout + Potluck brunch. Join in on this fun partner workout from 10 am – noon and bring a dish to pass for the post workout brunch.

 2/16: Hyper Robo Exo Exo

Now that you have got that workout out of the way, you certainly earned yourself a fun night out. Grab your sweetheart or bestie and head to the Cave in The Russell Industrial Center for Hyper Robo Exo Exo.You will be immersed in a showcase of art and fashion made by B.F.F. Detroit artists, Stargazer and Simone Else. Doors are at 8pm, Performance starts at 9pm.

 2/17: Oscar Nominated Short Films

After a long week of fun it will be time to unwind and relax. Kick back and enjoy some good flicks and popcorn with your beau at the DIA. The Detroit Film Theatre is showing the Oscar Nominated Short Films starting at 1pm & 6pm. GA is $9.50 and $7.50 for seniors, students and DIA members.
