Meet Bakersfield Detroit
CALLING ALL TACO LOVERS, A NEW KID JUST HIT THE PROVERBIAL DETROIT BLOCK AND WE COULDN'T BE MORE PUMPED TO SAY, WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD, BAKERSFIELD! NOW DON'T GET US WRONG WE STILL HAVE A LOVE AFFAIR WITH OUR OTHER GO TO'S, AHEM... ALLEY TACO, TAQUERIA EL REY & IMPERIAL, BUT WE'VE BEEN EATING AT BAKERSFIELD LONG BEFORE THEY CAME TO DETROIT A COUPLE MONTHS AGO. SEE, BAKERSFIELD ORIGINATED IN CINCINNATI, OHIO IN 2012 AND HAVE BEEN SPREADING THEIR TACO LOVE ACROSS THE MIDWEST EVER SINCE. LUCKY FOR US THEIR LATEST DESTINATION IS RIGHT HERE IN MOTOR CITY!
If it's your first time going, do yourself a favor and order one of every taco. My favorites are the huitlacoche (elote style corn, veggie), fish and the al pastor. But let's get real, they are all super solid tacs. On top of tacos you're ordering: chips and queso (best loaded with black beans, chorizo and pickled jalapeños). IT'S SO GOOD. They also serves sandwiches, tostadas and salads. The Cubano the guy next to us was eating looked delicious and big enough to feed a small family. All in all the food is great and a really solid value. Tacos between $3-$5 and sandwiches around $10.
Whiskey, tequila, craft beer, craft cocktails and multiple margarita offerings! YES. The drink menu is approachable and reasonably priced. They pride themselves in tequila and whiskey, so I stuck to that. I got the Bakersfield Margarita, an absolute steal at eight bucks, but it didn't last long and left me wishing I ordered a pitcher. What you're drinking: Bakersfield's signature margarita, the best deal in town. Also one of their many options of tequila in shot form.
The ambiance is super welcoming as the entire restaurant is built around their bar. The utilitarian design allows the food and drink to really shine through. They are generally packed Thursday-Saturday so go on off hours to get a less crowded experience. They recently opened up for lunch so tomorrow, step your lunch game up and make the drive to Bakersfield. Music was on point throughout, with the likes of Johnny Cash and some good old fashioned rock 'n roll. Located just north of Little Caesars Arena on Woodward, next to New Order Coffee and Grey Ghost.
Bakersfield is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 11 AM - 12 AM, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday 11 AM - 2 AM, and Sundays 11 AM - 10 PM.
Get the best bang for your buck and hit them up on a Tuesday for $2 tacos!
