5 Ways to Increase Your H2O Intake Immediately

We are slowly but surely creeping closer to glorious summer nights & warmer temperatures! This makes it all the more essential to check your daily water intake to make sure you are prepared for increased activity in the heat.

We live in a state surrounded by fresh water and in a country where it’s rarely not within reach. With superfluous amounts available, it can be easy to overlook it’s primal need. However, without water, the human body would wither and perish quite rapidly, as every single cell (approximately 30-40 trillion) requires water to function properly.

I always love to tell my clients that drinking water is one of the most intentional habits we must cultivate; once you feel “thirsty” you are already dehydrated! This means you have to consciously make the choice to drink water before any feelings of being parched arrive.

A simple rule of thumb to follow is to drink half your bodyweight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 160 lbs, you would need to drink 80 ounces of water as your baseline. Depending on the temperature, amount of time spent outside, altitude, and your activity level, your body may require more water on a given day.

Here are 5 Tips to Up Your H2O Intake Immediately:

  1. Create a simple tracking system

    What you measure, you can manage. It is so easy to get to the end of the day and only have 8 oz of water with how many other liquids there are to consume nowadays. You can go high-tech or old school with your methods, but choose one and stick to it! My favorite way is to have a big water bottle that, when filled and consumed twice, lets me know I have hit my ideal water intake for that day. This also takes away the excuse of not having water if you are constantly traveling or stuck in meetings.


  2. Add a drop of CPTG Lemon or Wild Orange essential oil to an 8oz glass of water

    Don’t love the taste of water, or just need a little extra something? Add a drop of essential oil or see tip #3. When adding essential oils, it’s HIGHLY important to use a glass cup as they naturally break down petrochemicals which can be found in plastic and styrofoam products.     One of the most common excuses I hear when it comes to drinking water is simply not enjoying the taste, which is often the case with “healthy” food as a whole. It makes sense when you think about the amount of sugar, salt, and fat in most foods or drinks we consume. This alters our taste buds and makes healthier food seem bland. To begin drinking more water immediately, fill a pitcher with water and your preferred flavor and let infuse overnight for the next day.


  4. Drink 8-20 oz first thing in the AM

    While sleeping, the body is in a fasting state, and it wakes up dehydrated. If your go-to is a warm cup of joe first thing in the morning, try sipping AT LEAST 8 oz of water to begin rehydrating your body and ward off that headache. We often think it is from not having our caffeine, but 9 times out of 10, we are severely dehydrated. Habits done first thing in the morning help set the tone of what’s to come throughout the day, and this pivotal nutrient is one you’ll want to start with!


  5. Create fun reminders on your phone to remind you to sip throughout the day

    There are hundreds of distractions and competing priorities each day making it easy to lose sight of any goal. One simple way to ensure you stay hydrated is by setting several reminders to go off every few hours and bring your focus back to this one habit.


    Now that you have 5 simple ways to increase your water intake immediately, here are several ways in which you may notice positive shifts in your body:
